Non-traditional farm exports jump 23% to US$1.2B: Official
Santo Domingo.- Agriculture minister Luis Ramón Rodriguez on Monday said exports of non-traditional products jumped 23 percent in 2013, with around US$1.2 billion in earnings.
He said farmers took out US$31.4 billion in loans last year, and built 1.6 million square meters of greenhouses, “which substantially spurred production of non-traditional products and contributed to their safety.
Rodriguez said as result of farm safety programs, the U.S. eliminated their automatic detention of local vegetables, and are already exporting peppers, cucumber, eggplant and green beans without restrictions to that market.
